Bennett's 27 Leads Wyalusing Past Lady Hornets

Wyalusing's Chloe Bennett scored a game-high 27 points to lead Wyalusing to a 47-37 win over Wellsboro on Thursday, January 11. It was the Lady Hornets' fourth loss in a row.

Bennett scored 19 of her 27 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, which the Lady Rams combined to score 31 of their 47 points.

Wellsboro held an early 12-9 lead after the first quarter but Wyalusing went on a 16-9 run in the 2nd to take a 25-21 lead into halftime. Wyalusing again outscored the Lady Hornets in the 3rd quarter as they opened their lead up to 10. Heading into the final quarter the Lady Rams led, 40-30. Both teams scored 7 points each down the stretch, allowing Wyalusing to hold on for the win.

"I was really happy with our effort tonight," head coach Darrell Morris said. "We were without our leading scorer, and all of our girls really stepped up and played hard. Maddy did a nice job scoring points for us, and Lily really played well on defense and gave us 8 points in a rare start. In the middle two quarters, we didn't keep track of Bennett like we needed to, and she hurt us and took over the game. Overall, we did a lot of good things, and if we can clean up the turnovers, we can be very competitive the rest of the season."

Senior Maddy Mascho led Wellsboro with 18 points, sophomore Lily Wagner added 8, junior Paige Logsdon had 5, senior Emily Morris scored 4, and senior Emily Richardson rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

Wellsboro falls to 3-6 (2-5 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action at Athens on Saturday.
