Hiley Earns First Varsity Win; Athens Rolls Over Sayre, 14-2

ATHENS - Freshman Gretchen Hiley earned her first varsity win in the pitcher's circle, and also had a big day at the plate to lead Athens to a 14-2 five-inning win over crosstown rival Sayre here Saturday afternoon in NTL softball action.

Gretchen Hiley allowed two runs - one earned - on four hits, while striking out nine and walking two in five innings to earn the win.

Gretchen Hiley led off the game with a single, and scored on a line-drive RBI double down the left-field line to give the Wildcats a quick 1-0 lead.

Athens put the game away in the second inning, scoring eight runs after there were two outs to take a 9-0 lead.

Tim Birney
