The Wellsboro Cross Country teams hosted Canton and Sayre for their NTL opener on Tuesday, September 3.
The Varsity boys team was edged 26-30 by Canton while both swept Sayre, 15-50. The Varsity girls team swept both teams.
Canton's Lawrence Halbfoerster won the race in 18:41 while juniors Max Macias (19:26) and Henry Whitney (20:27) finished 2nd and 3rd. Freshman Lane Cozby (23:11) came home 6th, junior Ethan Geneski (24:48) was 9th, and freshman Jack Hammerton (26:24) was 12th.
In the girls race sophomore Lauren Kosek won in 22:21 followed by junior Sophia Yoder (29:33), freshman Molly Tice (29:36), senior Karah Blackwell (31:02), freshman Anja Przybycien (32:35), and freshman Luisa Crocco (35:58).
In the Junior High race, Kaci Kosek finished in front of everyone in a time of 13:35. Taitt Webster (14:15) was the top-finishing boy for Wellsboro, and 2nd overall, followed by Austin DeShazo (14:44), and Jacob Patterson (15:39).
Wellsboro's boys won both Junior High races by forfeit.
The Hornets are back in action at Northeast Bradford on Tuesday, September 10 for a tri-meet with the Panthers and Troy.
