Senior Chloe Brandenburg scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Wellsboro Girls Basketball team to a 53-50 non-league win over South Williamsport on Saturday, December 7.
There was no JV game.
The Lady Hornets opened the game outscoring the Lady Mounties 17-14, however South cut the lead down to two points at the half with an 8-7 2nd quarter. Wellsboro pushed the lead to 37-32 after outscoring South 13-10 in the 3rd. The Lady Mounties outscored Wellsboro 18-16 in the final frame, however Wellsboro was able to hold on for the win.
Senior Paige Logsdon added 12 points to also finish in double-digits while freshman Teagan Novinger added 9 points and freshman Adelyn Frantz added 4 points. Logsdon pulled down 7 boards and had a block, Brandenburg added 6 points and 4 steals, junior Lily Wagner also had 7 rebounds, freshman Kate Bryant added 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
Abby Akers scored 27 points to lead South Williamsport.
Wellsboro (1-0) hosts Addison on Tuesday.
