The Wellsboro Girls Basketball team fell behind the eight ball early on in a 36-28 loss to Cowanesque Valley on Monday, February 5.
The Lady Indians held the Lady Hornets to just two points in the first quarter and Wellsboro was never able to rally. Trailing 6-2 after the opening quarter, CV scored 12 points in the 2nd quarter to push their lead to 10 points, 18-8 at the halftime break.
Wellsboro did edge CV in each quarter of the 2nd half, as they outscored the Lady Indians 9-8 in the 3rd and 11-10 in the 4th, however it was too little, too late.
Senior Maddy Mascho led the team, tying her career-high with 18 points. Junior Chloe Brandenburg added 6 points, and senior Emily Morris and junior Paige Logsdon pitched in two points each.
Ella Churchill led CV with 12 points.
Wellsboro won the JV game 10-3 behind six points from sophomore Lily Wagner. Wellsboro has won 5 in a row to improve their record to 7-5 with one game left to play.
The loss in the Varsity game drops the Lady Hornets to 8-11 (6-9 NTL Large School Division). The team travels to Troy on Wednesday.
