Wellsboro held on to claim their second straight win after a 10-6 run by Canton in the final frame on Wednesday, January 17.
The Lady Hornets built up a 29-18 lead after the third quarter but struggled against Canton's press, but eventually got the Lady Warriors into foul trouble late to secure the win. Prior to the fourth quarter Wellsboro led 8-2 after the first and 18-9 at halftime.
Junior Chloe Brandenburg led Wellsboro with 16 points, seniors Maddy Mascho and Emily Morris added 6 points each, junior Paige Logsdon scored 5 and senior Hannah Gilmour chipped in two points.
Logsdon had 9 rebounds while Mascho added 7, Morris grabbed 5 boards and made 3 assists and 3 steals, Brandenburg made 3 assists and sophomore Lily Wagner had 2 assists. Logsdon also blocked 3 shots.
Kendall Kitchen also scored 16 to lead Canton.
There was no JV game.
The win improves the Lady Hornets to 5-7 (3-6 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action at Cowanesque Valley on Friday.
