The Wellsboro Wrestling team brought home a 10th place finish at the South Williamsport Mountaineer Invitational on Saturday, January 4.
The Hornets scored 66 points as a team but brought home three individual medals.
Senior Silas Mickey placed 2nd overall in the 160 lb. weight class while senior Ryder Bowen (189) and junior Hayden Stevens (285) brought home 3rd place finishes.
Mickey started out the day with a pin over Salisbury Township's Colton Tone in his quarterfinal match, then followed it up with a 6-3 decision over Sugar Valley's Logan Leland in the semi-finals. Mid Valley's Samuel Almedina defeated Mickey by a 17-2 tech fall in the championship bout.
Bowen dropped his quarterfinal match, a 16-15 decision, to Williamson's Tim Freeman, but rebounded against Mid Valley's Cannon Auer with a 3:46 pin in the consolation round. Bowen then won his 3rd round consolation match over Salisbury Township's Jacob Watson by a 21-3 tech fall to move to the consolation semi-finals, where he defeated South Williamsport's Jayden Hamm via a 13-4 major decision. Bowen then defeated Freeman in the 3rd place match, pinning him in 4:32.
Stevens opened his outing with a 3:36 pin over Valley View's Apollo Kazmierski in his quarterfinal match before falling to Williamson's Luke Sottolano (4:53 pin) in the semi-finals. Stevens got back in the championship bracket with a 2:52 pin against Sugar Valley's Koda Mincer in the consolation semi-finals. He later defeated Northeast Bradford's Ben Ellis with a 1:30 pin in the 3rd place match.
Junior Mason Nowak, sophomore Wyatt Kilburn, and Jacob Dean also earned victories on the day. Nowak pinned (Pleasant Valley's Alexander Sandt in 1:37 in the 1st round consolation match. Kilburn also won in the 1st round consolation match, scoring a 20-2 tech fall over Williamson's Jacob Stone. Dean's win came against Valley View's Gage Jackson in the quarterfinals at 160 lbs. He was later defeated by Almedina from Mid Valley in the semi-finals.
Wellsboro resumes league dual match action Tuesday against Williamson.
