The Wellsboro Wrestling teams hit the road to Loganton to square off in a non-league match against Sugar Valley Rural Charter on Thursday.
The Phoenix won the match 54-17 by jumping out to an early 24-0 lead after winning 107, 114, 121 and 127 all by forfeit. Following a break in the action at 133, Sugar Valley won at 139, 145, 152, and 160 to make it 48-0 before the Hornets finally struck.
Senior Evan Ingerick put the Hornets on the scoreboard win a forfeit victory at 172, followed by an 18-2 (2:42) tech fall by senior Ryder Bowen at 189 over Brandon Galentine. Junior Hayden Stevens pinned Koda Mincer at 285, after Sugar Valley won by pin fall at 215, in 1:35 to close out the match.
Wellsboro (5-16, 0-7 NTL) hosts Jersey Shore on Tuesday for Senior Night.
