A pair of second-half goals by the Hughesville Spartans ended a four-game win streak by the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team Saturday.

"We'll get some rest tomorrow, regroup on Monday, and get ready for a stretch of league games beginning on Wednesday," head coach Todd Fitch said.

The game was scoreless until midway through the 2nd half when the Spartans' Sam Haddon struck off a cross from the right side of the field. Not even two minutes later Carter Gormont dribbled up through the middle of the Hornets' defense for a goal.

The game was scoreless from there on out.

Hughesville took five shots in the game while holding the Hornets to just two. They also had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior Camden Tom recorded two saves in goal.

In the JV game Wellsboro edged out the Spartans 2-1 to remain undefeated on the season. Sophomore Xavier Lecker, assisted by freshman Liam Stevens, scored in the first half to put Wellsboro on top. Stevens later assisted sophomore Brayden Benjamin to give the Hornets a 2-nil advantage at the half. Hughesville later scored with 10:30 left in the game.

The Hornets fall to 8-3 (6-1 NTL). The team is back in action on Wednesday against North Penn-Liberty.
