Lady Hornets Fall In Season-Opener To Rival Liberty

North Penn-Liberty plated 4 runs in the first two innings to hand rival Wellsboro a 9-3 season-opening loss on Wednesday, March 19.

The Lady Mounties scored three runs from the top of their lineup in the first inning, then Madison Smith scored in the top of the 2nd to push the lead to 4-0 over the Lady Hornets. Liberty scored twice more in the 3rd, added another run in the 4th, and closed out the scoring with a pair of runs in the 5th inning.

Wellsboro did all their damage in the 4th inning. Senior Paige Logsdon led off the inning with a triple then scored one at bat later on a base hit by freshman Teagan Novinger. Junior LeAnna Fuentes singled after Novinger and both would score with freshman Hannah Taylor running for Novinger.

Wellsboro had 7 hits on the afternoon, led by Logsdon going 2-for-4. Freshman Rylee Coolidge and Novinger were both 1-for-3, Fuentes and freshman Delaney Morral were both 1-for-2, and senior Madelynn Losinger was 1-for-1.

Freshman Adelyn Frantz threw six innings on the mound, allowing 9 runs on 8 hits with 5 walks and 6 strikeouts.

Liberty had 8 hits on the afternoon and were led by Madison Smith (3-for-4) and Elaina Shaw (2-for-2). Haley Litzelman got the win from the mound, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with a walk and 6 strikeouts in 4 innings of work.

The Lady Hornets (0-1, 0-1 NTL Large School Division) travel to Troy Friday afternoon.
