The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team suffered their fourth straight loss to open the 2025 season, falling 16-2 in 5 innings to Towanda on Thursday.
The Lady Hornets found themselves in a 8-0 hole before their plated both of their runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Freshman Adelyn Frantz led off the inning with a double then senior Paige Logsdon drew a walk to put two on the base path for freshman Teagan Novinger. Novinger singled with one out, scoring both Frantz and Logsdon to cut the lead down to 8-2.
The Lady Knights then went on to score 2 runs in the 4th and added 6 more in the top of the 5th.
Frantz led the Lady Hornets at the plate, going 3-for-3 with 2 doubles. Novinger was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and senior Madelynn Losinger was 1-for-2.
Frantz threw a complete game on the mound, allowing 16 runs (11 earned) on 11 hits with 6 walks and 6 strikeouts in the loss.
Layla Miller and Kynlee Kunkle both went 2-for-3 for the Lady Nights while TaeLynn Brabant and Leila Cobb were both 2-for-4. Aleah Johnson earned the win in 4 innings of work, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts.
Wellsboro (0-4, 0-4 NTL Large School Division) host Sayre at 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
