A Luna Moyer goal with just over three and a half minutes remaining to defeat Towanda 1-nil Tuesday evening.
"Our effort was incredible tonight. It was one of the most physical matches I've ever seen, but our girls never retaliated and kept their composure," head coach Michael Reese said. "We created multiple chances and finally broke through late in the second half with great ball movement. I'm so proud and happy for the girls. Our JV also stepped up and completed the sweep with a 1-0 shutout."
Moyer's goal was assisted by freshman Haylie Smith and junior Jadyn Dunlap made 4 saves in goal.
Wellsboro had a slight 5-3 advantage in corner kicks and had a 9-6 shot advantage.
The Lady Hornets also won the JV game 1-0, on a goal by freshman Shayla Hamblin with nine minutes remaining in the first half.
Wellsboro improves to 5-3 overall (4-2 NTL) following the win. The team is back in action Thursday at Wyalusing.
