After she was done on Saturday Canton’s Kendall Kitchen thought she had just missed the state podium for the second year in a row. But when her coach texted her to look at the standings Kitchen became excited, and relieved, once she saw she had finished eighth in the Class AA girls’ pole vault at the PIAA Track and Field Championships.

The sophomore duo of Piper Hoprich and Lauren Kosek brought home a combined three medals during the PIAA Track Championships at Shippensburg.

SHIPPENSBURG - Athens junior Abby Burgess has had her fair share of near-misses in her track and field career, but at the PIAA Track and Field Championships Friday she came out on the bright side of a close shave, earning a spot in the Class AAA 100-meter finals by .01 seconds.

Ben Warburton made the state podium, and Alyssa Parks is one race away from joining him there after the PIAA Championships on Friday.

Troy couldn't touch Mount Carmel's Drew Yagodzinskie during the District IV, Class AAA baseball semifinals on Friday. The Red Tornado hurler threw a perfect game in the 4-0 win.

WILLIAMSPORT - Athens sophomore Brendan Cooke hit a towering home run in the top of the second inning to tie the score, but the rest of the game was all Montoursville.

The first time Troy played Williamson they had to rally for an 8-7 win. On Tuesday they left no doubt, beating the Warriors 10-0 in five innings during the District IV, Class AA softball quarterfinals.

Ben Warburton claimed his second goal of the District IV, Class AA Track and Field Championships, taking home the 200 meter title after winning the long jump title on Thursday.
