Ben Warburton claimed his second goal of the District IV, Class AA Track and Field Championships, taking home the 200 meter title after winning the long jump title on Thursday.
"Unexpected," is how Warburton described winning the title in the 200 with a time of 22.38, just .06 seconds ahead of second place.
"I was expecting to qualify for states with my time, but to win, it was something that wasn't expected," he said.
He came off the turn in strong position as built a small lead, then held on through to the end.
"That's always been my strategy is just catch the person ahead of you," he explained. "I had to figure out my form on the last 100 and keep the speed."
Because of the tight nature of the race Warburton wasn't sure he'd won until after.
"I really didn't think I did until the very end," he said. "I kind of believed in myself."
He'll now have two events to focus on at states as he is seeded seventh in the 200 and third in the long jump.
Warburton just missed qualifying for states in the 100, taking seventh in 11.37.
Evan Geer (2:001.10) came up just short in the 800, taking fourth and missing the state standard by less than a second, with Avery Sens (132-feet, 4-inches) seventh in the discus.
Cameron Morey got on the district podium with a seventh place finish in the triple jump at 42-feet, 3-inches, with Kendrick Ross (5-feet, 11-inches) ninth in the high jump.
Mason Wulff (53.37) was 17th in the 400, as Rylan Breidt (44.09) was 21st in the 300 hurdles.
The 4x100 relay was 10th in 45.72, while the 4x400 relay was 13th in 3:43.50.
