A 20-0 run by Canton in the 3rd quarter broke open a 13-point game at halftime to give the Lady Warriors a lopsided 53-18 win over the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team Tuesday night.
The game was close early on as the Lady Hornets trailed by just five, 12-7, after the opening quarter. Canton outscored Wellsboro 15-7 to open the gap to a 13-point, 27-14, lead heading into the half before the Lady Warriors' big 3rd quarter.
Canton then outscored Wellsboro 6-4 in the 4th to close out the game.
Freshman Lena Rothermel scored 6 points to lead Wellsboro while sophomore Adelyn Frantz added 5, and sophomore Kate Bryant pitched in 3. Freshman Kya Lawton and sophmore Aileen Bowers rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.
Cailyn VanNoy led all scorers with 21 points.
Canton edged Wellsboro 12-10 in the JV game, dropping the Lady Hornets to 5-11 on the year. Bowers led the scoring effort with 4 points while Rothermel, sophomore Jennifer Belz and Shayla Hamblin all chipped in 2 points.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 4-13 (2-9 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action Thursday at home against rival North Penn-Mansfield.
