CV Puts Together 4-Run 2nd Inning To Down Canton

Canton softball dropped a high scoring contest against CV, 12-7, during NTL action.

It was 3-3 after one, but a 4-run second by the Indians put them up 7-3.

Canton got one back in the third, with the two teams trading off runs in the fourth for an 8-5 contest.

Canton cut it to a 1-run game with two runs in the fifth, but a 4-run bottom half by CV put them out of reach.

Tara Gilbert (2-for-3) had a double with 3-RBI for the Warriors, as Lindley Sechrist (2-for-3) had a double with two runs scored.

Raya Preston (2-for-4) had a double, with Tiffany Acla (1-for-4) scoring a run.

Jaylee Ward scored twice, with Alyssa May driving in a run. Lucy Proseus (1-for-3) also had a hit.

Preston started, and went two innings with four strikeouts, three walks, seven hits, and seven runs scored.

Ward tossed the final four innings with three strikeouts, six walks, two hits, and five unearned runs.

Sechrist led off the game with a double, followed by Acla drawing a walk.

After an out Gilbert walked to load the bases, then an error off a Lexi McMurray ground ball drove in two for the 2-0 lead.

Proseus and May then drew back to back walks for another run.

In the third May reached on a dropped third strike, then Preston hit a 2-out single.

Kabry Kendall then scored on an error for a 7-4 game.

In the fourth Ward was hit by a pitch, then scored on a Gilbert single to make it a 2-run game.

The Warriors went with two in the fifth as Preston led off with a double, then Sechrist reached on a hit.

After two outs Gilbert hit a 2-run scoring double to make it a 1-run game.
