The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team went 1-5 at the Battle on the Border on Saturday at Williamson.
The Hornets started the day off with a 35-30 win over Campbell-Savona, but then fell to Alfred-Almond, Avoca, Addison, Arkport Central, and Sugar Valley Rural Charter.
In their win over Campbell-Savona freshman Mason Abplanalp (145) and junior Wyatt Kilburn (172) scored pin falls, senior Hayden Stevens (215) won a 19-3 tech fall, and freshman Mason Greene (107), and sophomores Connor Linden (121) and Kaynan Holler (133) won by forfeit.
Wellsboro fell 42-18 to Alfred-Almond. Kilburn, Stevens, and Greene all won via pin fall.
Stevens earned picked up his 2nd pin of the day in the Hornets' 45-18 loss to Avoca, while Greene and senior Vaughn Shannon (127) won via forfeit.
Against Addison (36-18, loss), Linden and Shannon won by forfeit. Stevens scored another pin, his 3rd of the day.
Stevens and Greene kicked off their match against Arkport Central with back-to-back pins before the Wolves rattled off three straight wins to lead 18-12. Holler and Abplanalp then won back-to-back forfeits to regain the lead. Another forfeit in Arkport Central's favor tied the match back up at 24-all heading into the final two bouts. Kilburn scored a pin to put the Hornets back up, 30-24, but a forfeit for Arkport Central tied the match up at 30-30. Arkport Central received the win on criteria (most forfeit wins).
In their final loss to Sugar Valley Rural Charter (54-9), Stevens won via forfeit and Kilburn won a 10-9 decision.
Wellsboro (1-19) is at Northeast Bradford for their final league match up of the season Tuesday.
