Hornets 4th Quarter Rally Falls Short Against Mansfield

Wellsboro put together a 25-point 4th quarter, however their rally fell short in a 54-45 loss to rival North Penn-Mansfield Friday night.

After a slow first quarter by both teams, that saw the Tigers hold a 6-4 lead, North Penn-Mansfield opened opened up the gap between the two teams with a 13-7 quarter, taking a 19-11 lead into halftime.

The Tigers increased their lead following the break, outscoring the Hornets 16-9 to push their lead to 35-20.

The Hornets outscored the rival Tigers 25-19, but couldn't close it out with a win.

Three Hornets scored in double digits on the evening, led by junior Colin Fletcher and sophomore Griffin Morral with 12 points each. Senior Jonathan Carl also finished with 10 points.

Senior Marek Mascho added 7 points and juniors Gideon Lawton and Ethan Keane chipped in 2 points apiece.

Carl had a team-high 8 rebounds and Fletcher made 6 assists and had 5 steals.

Jason Harer paced the Tigers with a game-high 21 points while adding 14 rebounds, 7 blocks and 4 assists. Andy Hermansen also finished in double-digits with 17 points to go along with 13 rebounds and 4 steals.

Wellsboro won the JV game 41-18 to start the evening, improving their record to 17-0. Sophomore Braylen Jessup had 14 points.

The loss drops the Hornets to 8-9 (7-5 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action tonight against Troy.
