Lady Hornets Place 18th At Williamsport Showcase

The Wellsboro Girls Wrestling team placed 18th out of 28 teams at the Williamsport Showcase on Saturday.

The Lady Hornets scored 30 points. Athens claimed the top spot with 156.5, followed by Shikellamy (145).

Freshman Phoebe Bowen placed 6th overall. She started the day off with a 2:43 pin against Muncy's Piper Diehl in her first match, then fell to Mifflinburg's Taylor Stewart in 2:19 in the quarterfinals. She rebounded to pin Crestwood's Tarn Kakalecik in the consolation round 4, and followed it up with a 4:15 pin over Nazareth's Aubrey Davison in the fifth round before falling to Stewart in 3:37 in the 5th place match.

Sophomore Isla Twoey went 3-2 on the day, scoring pins over CMVT's Delaney Zajac (1:10), Benton's Makenna Wharton (2:17) and Sugar Valley's Abby Immel (2:18) and fell to Selinsgrove's Aislynn Weller (0:53) and Hughesville's Isabella Olshefskie (0:51).

Sophomore Rosa Sguera finished 2-2. She defeated Central Columbia's Kily Vinson (1:22) and Muncy's Adelynn Holmes (2:09) and fell to Hempfield's Clair Beck (0:43) and Nazareth's Emilie Capron (2:19).

Sophomore Katie Whitney went 0-2, falling to Central Mountain's Alana Rhods (1:26) and Shikellamy's Isabella Marlow (4:08).

Senior Kodi Passmore went 0-2 on the day, fall to Mifflinburg's Camryn Roman (0:35) and DuBois' Alayna DuFour (10-1 major decision).

Freshman Peyton Weatherby was 0-2, falling to Bellefonte's Victoria Schellenberg (0:25) and Williamsport's Mah'ogny Bell-Smalls (0:41).

Freshman Riley Kilburn finished 0-2, falling to Hughesville's Michayla Applegate (2:10) and Southern Columbia's Daphney Bingaman (2:47).

Junior Kaelyn Peterson was 2-1, defeating Jersey Shore's Chole Corson (1:26) and falling to Shamokin's Layla Ortega (2:48) and Muncy's Lillian Kramer (2:19).
