The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team snapped their seven-game losing streak by defeating Cowanesque Valley 42-30 for a Senior Night victory on Thursday.

"Tonight was a solid team win," commented head coach Maureen Poirier. "While it wasn't always the prettiest, the girls locked in when it counted by grabbing rebounds, getting a stop, a steal, or scoring a basket. Their stepped-up effort tonight showed in many aspects of the game. It was a great night to celebrate Lily and Asi."

The Lady Hornets held a 12-7 lead after the opening quarter concluded and increased their lead to 21-13 at halftime. Wellsboro scored another 12 points in the 3rd to make it a 33-22 lead heading into the final frame, where the Lady Hornets again edged CV 9-8 to go on for the win.

Sophomores Kate Bryant and Adelyn Frantz led the Lady Hornets on the evening, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Freshman Kya Lawton added 8 points and also tied herself for 3rd all-time in Wellsboro girls basketball history after pulling down 19 boards, 12 of them coming on the offensive end of the court. Lawton is now tied with Emma Coolidge and Kelly Hebert.

Senior Lily Wagner added 6 points and freshman Lena Rothermel chipped in 4 points.

Rothermel added 8 rebounds, Frantz pulled down 6 boards and made 3 assists, Bryant added 4 assists and 2 steals, and Wagner had 4 rebounds and 5 steals.

Wellsboro swept the evening, winning the JV game 21-18. Freshman Shayla Hamblin led the team with 6 points, sophomore Aileen Bowers finished with 5 points, and sophomore Madison Nagy and freshman Dillyn Patt added 4 points apiece and Rothermel rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
