Lady Warriors Fall Behind Early In Loss To Rival Troy

CANTON - Troy softball kept their playoff hopes alive with a 10-2 win over Canton during non-league action Monday.

The Trojans jumped out with a 5-run first inning, followed by a 2-run third inning.

The teams traded runs in the fourth, with Troy scoring two more in the sixth. Canton got their final run in the bottom of the seventh.

Maddyson Muir (4-for-4) had 3-RBI With two runs scored as Delaney Kendall (2-for-4) hit a home run with 3-RBI, and two runs scored.

Lauren Reed (2-for-4) scored as Haidyn Watson (1-for-3) had a double with two runs scored.

Erinn Knapp (1-for-4) scored twice with an RBI as Izzy Renzi also crossed home.

Aleiyah Kutt (1-for-4) had 2-RBI while Daniell Roy (1-for-4) and Sydnee Bellows (1-for-3) both scored.

Knapp struck out eight with no walks, six hits, and no earned runs.

For Canton Tiffany Acla (2-for-4) had an RBI with Lucy Proseus (1-for-3) and Lindley Sechrist (1-for-3) both scoring runs.

Tara Gilbert (1-for-3) and Amelia Pepper (1-for-3) each had a hit as Nevaeh Vroman drove in a run.

Raya Preston struck out 10 for Canton with four walks, 10 hits, and 10 runs, six of which were earned.

In the top of the first Bellows led off with a hit followed by Watson drawing a walk. Bellows would get nabbed trying to steal but a Reed single put two runners on again.

Knapp singled in Watson, followed by Reed scoring on a Muir hit for a 2-0 lead. Kendall kept the rally going with a single that scored Knapp to make it 3-0.

After an out Kutt drove in Muir and Kendall to make it a 5-0 ball game.

In the third Muir hit a 1-out single followed by Kendall taking an 0-2 pitch over the center field fence for a 2-run shot to make it 7-0.

In the fourth Renzi led off with a walk followed by Reed hitting a single. After an out Muir singled in Renzi for an 8-0 ball game.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard in the bottom half as Proseus led off with a hit. Preston would reach on an error while two batters later Vroman drove in Proseus for an 8-1 score.

Watson led off the sixth with a double, and would score on an error off the bat of Knapp. Muir then plated Knapp for a 10-1 ball game.

In the seventh Sechrist hit a 1-out single then scored on an Acla hit for the 10-2 final.

Canton (6-12) travels to Wyalusing on Tuesday while Troy (8-10) needs a win at Athens Tuesday to keep their playoff hopes alive.
